Venezuela announced on Saturday that it had reached an agreement with Washington to accept additional deportations from the United States, after one week after more than 200 Venezuelan was sent accused of gang members to El Salvador.
Flights were suspended last month when US President Donald Trump claimed that Venezuela did not rise to the level of promises, and Karacas later said that she would not accept flights.
After that, Washington deported 238 Venezuelans accused of belonging to the Trine de Aragoa gang, which Trump appointed a foreign terrorist organization, to the Aqsa Security Prison in El Salvador, a move that Caracas criticized deeply.
“In order to ensure the return of our countrymen to protect their human rights, we agreed with the US government to resume the return of Venezuelan immigrants with a first trip tomorrow,” Jorge Rodriguez said in a statement.
“The migration is not a crime, and we will not be comfortable until everyone who wants to return home, and until we save our brothers, they were kidnapped in El Salvador,” said Rodriguez, who is also the president of the National Assembly in Venezuela.
Sunday’s trip will be the fifth trip to immigrants who arrive in Venezuela since Trump took office in January. Since February, about 900 Fenzueli, most of them from the United States and some of them were returned from Mexico.
