Thailand is defending the deportation decision, as the United States says, it will impose visa restrictions on official cooperation.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced sanctions against an unspecified number of officials in Thailand for at least 40 Yigur to China last month, despite fears that may be persecuted.
Rubio said in a statement on Friday that he immediately imposes the visa restrictions on current and former officials responsible for deportation or collusion. No Thai official was named.
For years, rights groups have accused China of widespread violations, including mass detention, a Muslim ethnic minority of more than 10 million people in the western region of Xinjiang. Beijing rejects these claims.
“We are committed to combating China’s efforts to pressure governments to restore forced anus and other groups to China, where they are subject to torture and enforced disappearance,” said Rubio.
Thailand Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that it had made clear several times with the countries that conveyed their concerns about the safety of men who have confirmed China that they will be unattended, and that Thailand would continue their well -being.
“Thailand has always supported a long tradition of humanity, especially in providing assistance to militants from different countries for more than half a century and will continue to do so,” the ministry said in a statement.
Defense and Justice ministers in Thailand said they had set a trip to visit men in China next week. A number of Thai journalists were invited to join them.
More than 300 Yigur was detained from China in 2014 by the Thai authorities. By February, 48 Uighurs remained in Thai detention when the authorities prepared to send them to China, despite calls from Thai legislators and international officials not to do this.
Rubio condemned the “strongest possible conditions”, saying that “Ouigors faced persecution, forced work and torture” in China.
In Facebook publications, the Chinese embassy in Bangkok said that 40 Chinese citizens who were “smuggled” have returned to Xinjiang on a rented trip and that they “all returned home and gathered with their families after more than 10 years.”
Rubio has been a long -term critic of Beijing, and was twice approved by the Chinese government in 2020 because of his support for the rights of yogur and people in Hong Kong.
