Drivers are hit with a new extent for speed and closure on the longest highway in the UK.
M6 offers a speed of 40 miles per hour until 2027, and I swear to close the highway as a plan for two years.
The closure operations on the North Transport Road occur on Saturday 5 and Sunday, April 6, from 10 pm to 6 am between the 39 and 40 connections.
The road to the south will be closed on Saturday, April 12th, and the Saturday, May 17, at the same time.
This is due to the main repairs on the LowTher Bridge, which takes vehicles over the river to the south of Penrith.
With the LowTher Bridge a vital part of the M6 infrastructure, says Sam Whitfield, director of the national highway project, says maintenance is necessary for the highway to continue working in the long term.
He said: “If we do not behave now, the risks are drivers and society will suffer from closing unplanned highways and regular delays.”
The A6 conversion signs will be visible to drivers while closing these roads, as the transportation road has been reduced to two paths.
The reform work is part of the LowTher Bridge project, which costs 9 million pounds, and the WestCoast Bridge projects of 60 million pounds, Clifton M6.
This includes replacing the joints of the bridge that allows it to expand or contract in different weather conditions, curve on the surface of the bridge, and restart and repair the central safety barrier.
Whitfield adds: “To reduce the disorder, we work with the close Network Rail project in Clifton to exchange traffic management.
“This means that there is a need for a limited number of closure of full highways and ensures that the M6 is open to most of our business.”
Drivers are urged to check the latest travel advice before flights via M6, but they will remain open at all times.
They will also be requested to adhere to a speed of 40 miles per hour, with the rail traffic management in the area that replaces the Clifton Bridge over the next 18 months.
This comes after the work stopped on the planned bridge last year due to the necessary environmental approval, as the bats were discovered under the bridge.
