Thousands of Israelis joined protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as demonstrations against his move to topple the head of local intelligence service on a third consecutive day.
The police launched a water cannon and conducted many arrests with the outbreak of quarrels during the protests in Tel Aviv and near the Prime Minister’s residence in Jerusalem, where the police said dozens of demonstrators tried to penetrate security restaurants.
“We are very concerned that our country has become a dictatorship,” said Rinat Hadashi, 59, in Jerusalem. “They give up our hostages, they neglect all the important things for this country.”
Netanyahu said this week that he lost confidence in Bar, who has led Sheen Hann since 2021, and intends to reject him.
Netanyahu rejected this accusation as a political motivation attempt to remove him, but his critics accused him of undermining the institutions on which Israel’s democracy is based by requesting the removal of the bar.
