Doctors who treat Pope Francis had to think about “allowing him to leave” after he died almost twice while receiving hospital treatment. Argentina, 88, was released from Jimili Hospital in Rome, where he was fighting double pneumonia over the past five weeks, on Sunday.
Dr. Sergio Alviri, a member of the team that addressed the head of the Catholic Church, revealed the horrific details of his battle, including when experts considered “allowing him to leave”. He said: “We had to choose between allowing him to leave or try everything in a very great danger. Francis knew that he could die. Those around him had tears in their eyes, and said:“ This is bad. ”
For the first time, I saw tears in the eyes of some people around him. People who, as I understood during this period of the hospital, love him sincerely like the father.
“We all learned that the situation has worsened more and that there is a danger that he would not do and that we lose it.
“We had to choose between stopping and allowing him to leave or force him and try all possible medicines and treatments, and they are very dangerous to damage other organs. In the end, we took this path.”
Massimiliano Strabiti made the decision to continue medical treatment, the Persian doctor in the Pope, who urged the employees to continue despite the risks.
Dr. Alfiri also revealed that the Pope approached death on two occasions.
On one occasion, fears have launched that His Holiness may not survive the night after his condition exacerbated.
He said: “That night was terrible; he knew, as we did, that he might not survive that night. We saw a man suffering. But from the first day, he asked us to tell him the truth about his condition.
In another dangerous episode, the sacred leader died almost from suffocation.
Dr. Alfiri continued: “We were out of the most difficult moment when the Pope was vomiting and suffocating it almost. This was really decisive because in these cases, if it was not rescued immediately, there is a risk of sudden death along with complications in the lungs, which was already the most profitable devices.
“It was terrible, we really thought we wouldn’t make it.”
The Pope was received by a large crowd of supporters during a short appearance on a balcony at Jimili Hospital in Rome before leaving the medical center.
