I thought I was being appreciated by my club – then I was called by England and Nutmegged Pep Guardiola in the first time historical.

The moment I saw Dan Bern was chosen in the first team in England in Thomas Tuchil last week, he moved me directly to obtaining a first call 24 years ago.

I arrived for training in Charlton just like any other day, then at the end of the session, I was summoned by director Alan Corbeshi to see him in his office.

This usually means that I will drop the team! So I was a little worried.

But I got the biggest shock in my life when Alan told me that the fax had arrived from the FA – this was the fastest way in the memo – with the news included in the first England band in Sven -Gork Eriksson.

Perhaps Dan at the age of 32, I thought my chance to play in England had gone, so getting the gesture was incredible. I was 31.

Like the Newcastle champion, I was the first player to arrive at the hotel to submit a report on England’s duty. Since England was playing in Villa Park, she was at the new Hall Hotel in Birmingham.

Because it was friendly, the managers made eight changes in the first half. I went out although I was not supposed to. I had a little cancellation, and Sven suggested that I had not seized any chances until Michael Paul replaced me.
