Among the victims were two young athletes from Boston -Gina Han, 13 years old, and Spencer Lin, 16 – their mothers, along with the esteemed Olympic coaches Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Numov. The tragedy that was cut through generations and geography: 11 of the dead were skiers between the ages of 11 and 16. Boston, a historic American ski center, has become its emotional center.
“One of them told me once that time is a great processor,” said Jay Yuk Kim, president of the International Ski Union, Jay Kim, during the memorial. “But for those who have suffered from a deep loss, we know that time does not erase the pain simply. For many of us, we seem to be frozen in time.”
Doug Lin, whose son Spencer and his wife, Christine, stood among those who were killed, in front of a crowd of thousands of TD Garden and gave a message that mixed sadness with determination.
“They really did not invent the vocabulary to talk about the sadness we all feel,” Lyn said. “So what I thought I would do with my time today is to share some ideas of hope.”
He called on the public to support the young skiers who are still here – those who grieve and remain shaved every day. He said, “They harm.” “I hope we can support them on their ski trips, but I also hope that we can help them find happiness paths and influence the ice too.”
Lynn also treated the regular failures that led to collapse. He said: “Even the normal person like me can easily determine the faults that allowed this to happen.” “But instead of looking for a blame, I hope we can work with our elected officials to make air travel safer for everyone.”
The tribute for 20 minutes included a video montage of the victims, and to read poetry by the United States of America, CEO of SAM Auxier, before the completion of the direct performance of the Coro Algro choir in Boston. Massachusetts Governor Mora Haley and Boston Michel Wu mayor addressed the gathering. The audience, including many of them, has risen for permanent applause upon completion.
At the famous ski club in Boston, which produced heroes like Dick Putin, Tenley Ulbright and Nancy Kyrigan and since the six local victims who trained and studied, remains an improvised memorial: two folding chairs that belong to Jinna Han and Spencer Lin are now covered with cards, pictures, and mobile animals. The space was stopped – not by the club, but by the skiers themselves.
“The children insisted,” said Doug Zigabi, CEO of the club. “It is her way of keeping Spencer and Kina close.”
Earlier this month, a greeting ceremony in Washington has gathered generations of ice skating stars. Legacy on ICE was distinguished by the performance of Christie Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, Brian Bhutano, Amber Galin, and world championship Elia Malenin. Thirteen -year -old Isabella Abarisio skiing in honor of her father and brother Franco and Luciano, who were killed. Max Nomov – whose parents, Shishkova and Numov, died in the accident – in their memory.
“They are not here now, but they will always be here.” NBC SPORTS said. “I am just no longer. It’s our family. I have the power of two other people with me forever.”
Washington’s party raised more than $ 1.2 million to the families of the victims and the first respondents. Malenin also spoke frankly about how it affects the accident. Many young skiing on the same ski circuit as the 20 -year -old US hero.
Malinin said: “Now I will always be in my head and in my heart.” “In these worlds, I really want to devote to everyone on that trip. I want to give everything I have in this performance and make it special for them.”
Although sadness was in advance and in the middle of Wednesday night, the World Championship is now heading towards the ice. The event also works as an important qualified step towards the 2026 winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, with national shares heated on the line and international competitions heated – even if it is one of the most dominant skiing countries. Russian skiers are still prohibited from international competition due to the ongoing war in Ukraine, now in its third year.
Malinin as the preferred overwhelming in the men’s event. It is known as the quadruple deity for his border leaps, as he looks forward to defending his global title on home ice. Among his rivals Adam Siao from France is his FA and Yuma Kagiyama Japanese.
In the female event, Japanese star Kauri Sakamuto’s attempt achieved a fourth consecutive title in the world on Wednesday when she finished the short program in fifth place behind the surprise leader Alyssa Liu, and returned to the world championship stage after his retirement for two years. Amber Glenn, who entered Boston defeated this season, ranked ninth after falling into its trio opening, but she honored the victims of the accident by formulating a shirt decorated with their names during her interview after a commitment.
The couples field is still wide open, and in the ice dance, the Americans are seeking Madison Choc and Ivan Bates to obtain a third world title in a row. This would represent the first three peat in the world in discipline in 28 years.
However, for many, these world championships will never be from competition.
“Children have returned to the ice,” said Zigabi. “But they ski with a deeper goal.”
The lights came harshly after a greeting. Music was swamped and the competition resumed. But for those who lost friends, coaches and teammates this winter, the ice will not feel the same.
“February was difficult,” said Zigabi. “The month of March was a little better. And all the hope that April would be better.”
