The British Broadcasting Corporation has agreed to settle with four female news providers for the recruitment court claims, including the distinction between age and sex.
Offers Martin Crocal, Karen Gyanon, Cassia Madeira, launched Anita McCavig, a BBC employment court that was scheduled to start next week, but will not now proceed in the wake of the settlement.
Upon reaching a decision, there is no acceptance of responsibility by the BBC, the Palestinian Authority News Agency is aware.
“We can confirm that we have reached a decision with the BBC administration, which avoids the need for a hearing in the court regarding our job demands.
“It has now ended for a lengthy process for about three years. We were deeply affected by the support we received.
“We look forward to contributing to the success of the BBC news, especially for live programming and growing broadcasting services that are very important for our fans.”
Crocal, Makafi and Madeira claimed discrimination based on age and sex, as a member of the Union and wages, while Gyannon claimed discrimination based on age, sex and wages.
In November 2024, women resumed after their demand was rejected in a previous court last year, which came after they had previously reached settlements in 2020.
In their conflict with the company, the four claimed that they lost their roles on the BBC news channel after an “counterfeit” employment exercise, but the BBC insisted that the application process was “strict and fair.”
A BBC spokesman said: “After a careful study, we reached a decision that ends lengthy legal procedures with four employees and avoid more costs for the BBC,” a BBC spokesman said.
“When doing this, we have not accepted any responsibility or any of the arguments presented against the BBC. We simply finish all the measures that were presented against us so that all concerned can move forward.
“The British Broadcasting Corporation successfully launched one BBC news channel in 2023, as it provided the best and slow news on TV and on the Internet here and around the world.
“We welcome this opportunity now to the future, and work together to present our fans – our first priority.”
