The best vaccine organizer in the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says he has been forced to go out by the Trump administration and criticizes World Health Minister Robert F. Kennedy Junior “wrong information and lies” about vaccines.
Emily Coong, host:
The Trump administration forced the exit from the supreme vaccine regulator in the Food and Drug Administration. On the way abroad, Dr. Peter Marx has handed over severe criticism of the Minister of Health Robert F. Kennedy Junior, Rob Stein, Health Reporter Rob Stein, with details. Hi Rob.
Rob Stein, side lines: hey, Emily.
Coong: Well. Let’s start with a food and drug administration official that we are talking here.
Stein: Yes. As I said, his name is Dr. Peter Marx, and it may not be a familiar name, but it is a big deal in the medical world. He led the Food and Drug Administration Center for Biology and Research Assessment under the heads of Trump and Biden, as it organizes everything from advanced genetic remedies to vaccines. In fact, he played a major role in the warp in the President of President Trump, which produced Covid-19 vaccines. As we know, these vaccines are attributed to saving many lives, but they are also very polarized.
Late Friday, Marx revealed that he was forced to leave the FDA. NPR got a copy of his resignation letter, which, as I said, included severe criticism of its new president, Robert F. Kennedy Junior, it’s unusual reprimand.
Kwong: What did Marx say?
Stein: Dr. Marx explained that while he tried to work with Kennedy, he could not do this because of the minister’s opinions on vaccines. Let me read a little of what Dr. Marx says in his resignation speech. He quoted, “It has become clear that the truth and transparency are not desirable by the Secretary, but rather he wishes a subject of wrong information and lies.”
In particular, Marx says it is worried because the nation is fighting a great outbreak of the group in Texas and other places. Kennedy promoted alternative treatments for the group, and Marx says Kennedy undermines confidence in safe and effective vaccines, which is, “irresponsible, harmful to public health and a clear danger to the health of our nation, our safety and security.”
Kwong: Rob, this is not the only step that the new administration has taken on vaccines, right?
Stein: This is true. Marx’s departure is just the latest high -ranking government world to be forced by the Trump administration, and this comes in the midst of a series of steps taken by Kennedy that led to the exclusion of warning bells among public health experts. Kennedy has postponed or canceled important meetings by independent vaccine consultants to the Center for Disease Control and FDA. The granting of the national health institutes for vaccine research has been canceled, and he has just used a well -known defender to combat the eoile to conduct another study on vaccines and autism, although this link has been exposed.
Coong: Rob, what are the reactions to Dr. Marx’s departure?
Stein: As you know, I must say that it was surprising that he would flow from medical experts throughout the country. Today I spoke with Dr. Paul Ofit. He is a vaccine expert at the University of Pennsylvania who has served for years as the FDA consultant and sometimes collides with marks. Let’s listen to a little of what he said.
Paul Ofit: I give Peter Marx credit. I think he was not willing to bend the knee to the RFK JR misleading campaign. Now, I think that with Peter Marx’s gold, it is like the fox guarding the chicken. This is a sad day for the children of America.
Coong: What should the administration say?
Stein: HHS official issued a statement saying, if Marx, “does not want to fail to restore the science to a golden level and enhances radical transparency, so he has no place in the management of food and drugs under the leadership of the strong Secretary Kennedy”.
Kwong: This is the NPR Health Rob stein. Thanks Rob.
Stein: You are betting, Emily.
